Transformation Tuesday: Provençal Pelican Hill home reimagined for $9M

1 Pelican Hill Circle, designed and completed in 1990 by EBTA Architects, served for a decade as the Irvine Company approved Provençal template for custom homes in their exclusive Crystal Cove, Pelican Crest, Hill, and Point, as well as Shady Canyon communities, and, yet, this iconic façade has since been remodeled and personalized into a new vision upon selling to its current owner in early 2015, a vision that has just recently hit the market for our viewing pleasure.

The muted interiors of the original home reveal an almost thirty year old time capsule of tile countertops, a muted, shabby chic color palette, and rooms confined to perform a singular purpose—how very un-2019!

The updated interiors reflect a certain affinity for heavy woods, large expanse of stark white walls, and cabinetry, sconces, and light fixtures reveal a desire for a limited, surface level remodel that could have drawn much more upon the rich history and intrigues of the French Provençal farmhouse. While the former interiors were dated, they reflected a restrained, honed approach to design, a patina that very much needs to be cultivated within any newly remodeled home, especially this one.

The highly turfed, gardened, and ornamented lawn of the former home were in desperate need of refreshing, perhaps a pergola, deep azure pool, and new firepit are just what the designer called for!

While the backyard remained relatively untouched by the remodel, allowing you to customize the space upon collecting the keys, the addition of roughly 1,000 square feet on the second floor allowed for the creation of a generous covered loggia on the ground floor, a space which can be appreciated by many in the warm California climate, the salty sea air wafting the scent of black
